Biography

Tessina Grant Moloney is an AI researcher with a background in communications, finance, analytics, and project management. She holds a Master of Science in Information Technology Management from Western Governors University and a BBA from the University of Technology, Jamaica.

Her interest in AI safety began in 2016 when Microsoft’s chatbot went rogue on Twitter, causing the company to shut it down in just 24 hours. The following year, Facebook also caught her attention when its experimental chatbots created an intelligible variation of English for more efficient negotiations.

However, it was February 2022 before Tessina began her AI journey in earnest. Her curiosity about the threat of generative AI to the marketing and communications industry led to her testing Jasper AI and reporting its bugs. This experience brought her to Google’s Project Magi as an AI moderator, where she helped train the data sets behind Google's Gemini, AI Overview, and NotebookLM.

After a year of working on Google's LLMs, she also consulted as a product manager at an AI startup. Now she primarily focuses on AI research and responsible AI initiatives.

Outside GCAS

When not buried in research, Tessina spends her time exploring the great doors with her adventure cat, Shadow. The pair lived in three countries together and spent four years traveling via caravan across the United States and Mexico. When the weather betrays her, Tessina spends her time indoors writing often, eating well, painting horribly, and taking orders from Shadow.
