Biography
Nicolas is a psychoanalyst (MA), and a PhD researcher at GCAS. He is a Research Associate at Apertura Para Otro Lacan (APOLA) and a member of the Associazione Lacaniana Internazionale in Rome. He has published articles in Brazilian and Irish psychoanalytic journals. Nicolas previously worked as a coordinator for Instituto Aus Ouvidos, an organization that provides cost-free psychoanalytically oriented services to communities across Brazil and Mozambique—where such services are often inaccessible.
He also conducts a Lacanian topology seminar with colleagues from Brazil. His work is that of an investigator of psychoanalysis. He believes the field must justify itself epistemologically if it intends to remain relevant. He does not view Lacan's theory as a mere continuation of Freud’s. With Lacan, psychoanalysis gained the potential to subvert everything traditionally considered “natural.” Drawing from a structural and topological reading of Lacan, he explores how psychoanalysis can challenge prevailing notions of subjectivity by shifting from a logic of self-enclosed 3D individuals to one of “inmixing of otherness,” 2D surfaces, discourse, and speech.
His research investigates the impact of neurobiological discourse on contemporary thought, examining how neuroscience reinforces current modes of social reproduction. At the same time, he positions psychoanalysis as a possible antagonist to these discourses and epistemologies. Clinically, he does not work within the frameworks of psychiatry, neuropsychiatry, or psychological diagnosis. The work carried out in analysis is grounded in speech and discourse.
