Nicole is a creative, a researcher, and skilful in the art of making AI behave. While her academic foundation consists of two master’s degrees, her professional toolkit is a dizzying collection of certifications that suggests a profound love for life-long learning and… a deep-seated need to make sure AI is governed correctly.

Her work focuses on the distinction between the Ethics of AI (what these systems mean for society) and Ethics for AI (how teams build and deploy them responsibly.) In practice she specialises in operationalising ethics, the gap between "what we should do" and "how we actually do it."

Drawing on her international experience across multiple sectors, Nicole has identified a critical gap in change management: the tendency for organisations to prioritise the rapid adoption of technology over the slower, more deliberate assessment of its social and human risks.

Alongside her PhD, Nicole continues to dismantle (complex) challenges for her clients, fuelled by a steady stream of earl grey tea, an unreasonable volume of reading; she is quick to laugh, slow to trust a black box, and always ready for a debate on the labour rights of machines.
