Stephen Felder, Ph.D., is a humanities scholar whose interdisciplinary research brings Continental philosophy, Lacanian psychoanalysis, and cultural criticism into dialogue with questions of anxiety, affect, subjectivity, ideology, and social change. He is Professor of Humanities at Irvine Valley College, where he has taught since 2005 and was named Faculty Member of the Year for 2024–2025. He holds a Ph.D. in History from the University of California, Irvine, and has also taught at UC Irvine, Scripps College, and UC Riverside.

Felder is the author of Anxiety and the Contradictions of Culture: A Lacanian Approach to Gaze, Sex, Race, and Social Change (Lexington Books, 2024), as well as articles on Lacanian theory, Žižek, neoliberalism, psychoanalysis, and contemporary culture. His current research extends this work into the study of affect and emotion, particularly the relationship between feeling, freedom, and subjectivity. He is currently writing Feeling and Freedom: Hegel against the Emotion Strategy, a study of emotion and freedom that places Hegel in dialogue with contemporary affect theory and psychoanalysis.
