PhD in Humanities & Social Sciences

philosophical anthropology, critical theory, metaphysics, ethics, sports and performance psychology

Henry "Rick" Poce, EdD, is an educator, Certified Mental Performance Consultant® (CMPC), and interdisciplinary researcher with more than 25 years of teaching and coaching experience at the secondary and collegiate levels. He holds master's degrees in Philosophy, Religious Studies, and Sport and Performance Psychology.

His research examines how cultures of measurement, optimization, and digital visibility shape identity and contemporary understandings of success. His current doctoral project examines sport as a school of life and a site of human flourishing drawing on Continental philosophy, philosophical anthropology and virtue ethics to recover athletics as a humanizing practice rather than a mere performance metric. Ultimately, his work seeks to develop a more human-centered vision of sport and performance that supports excellence, resilience, and personal formation while affirming that human dignity and worth cannot be reduced to metrics or achievement.

Rick loves coaching, reading, working out, spending time with those close to him.
