Since 2013
GCAS is the first higher-education institution in the world to offer accredited degrees on a debt-free, cooperative model — owned in common by the researchers and faculty who built it.
Thirteen years on, GCAS remains the only college of its kind: independent, internationally accredited, and structurally accountable to its own community rather than to investors, state ministries, or tuition-driven growth.

At a time when education is becoming more automated and less critical, it’s a pleasure to be at an institution that hasn’t lost its human element.

GCAS is revolutionary. It creates a collective context in which learning becomes synonymous with rewriting paradigms and imagining new realities.
Where we meet
Once a year, GCAS researchers and faculty gather in person — to study, to argue, to walk, and to mark the work of those who have completed their degrees.
The annual seminars are GCAS’s embodied counterweight to its online life. Over the course of a week or two, researchers from across the world meet their supervisors face to face, sit through working sessions with the scholars whose books they have been reading all year, and join a tradition that goes back to the earliest universities. The location changes — Florence in 2026, Paris, Prague, and elsewhere in years past — but the practice does not.
