TRIPS & EXCURSIONS
Travel is an integral part of IGE’s Vienna programs and all students take part in a travel/study experience which is included in your program fee. Below are the travel options offered for the up-coming terms:
2019 Fall Semester:
During the fall semester students will be provided with two trips:
Prague (4 days)
Budapest (3 days)
At IGE we understand that you aren’t just studying in Vienna – you are living here. Everything about your term is designed with that in mind. From the “studentenheim,” or student’s home, that you will live in, to our weekly meals and free transportation passes, everything about IGE Vienna is designed to help you thrive during your time in Vienna. Other programs house you in large American dorms, isolated apartments, or in homestays where you will never meet anyone under 50. At IGE Vienna our students integrate into Austrian student life as extensively as possible and the ratio of Europeans to Americans at your dorm is usually about 40:1, so you won’t ever feel like there are only other American students to hang out with.
Students are housed at the Europahaus, an international student dormitory which is located just inside the western city limits of Vienna. the Europahaus houses approximately 400 students (200 Austrians, and 200 other students from around Europe). The dormitory buildings are surrounded by a beautiful, 6 hectare (60,000 sq. meters) park which offers students lots of space for outdoor activities- including a soccer field. Located right next to a bus stop and just a 10 minute walk to the subway, students find their dormitory to be the perfect home away from home, especially after a long day of sight-seeing around the city.
Inside the dormitory, students share double rooms. Each room comes furnished with a bed, desk, chair, and wardrobe which can be locked to keep any valuable items safe. Each double room has its own private bathroom with a shower, sink, and toilet. Each room has its own phone and students are provided with free high-speed internet. Students share kitchens which are located at the end of each floor. Each kitchen comes equipped with two refrigerators, ovens, and stoves. Students are responsible for supplying their own cooking ware. Students can either bring these items to Vienna or they can be easily purchased upon arrival. IGE students truly enjoy their time at the Europahaus because of its peaceful setting and fabulous amenities that many other dorms do not offer.
One group meal is provided each week for IGE-Vienna students and faculty. This is a great way for the IGE faculty to connect with students, answer any questions, share stories from the week and even plan out future adventures. Students are provided with full-size, shared kitchens and of course have the option to eat out at various affordable restaurants and cafes. Listed below are several examples of the kinds of restaurants an IGE student can expect to visit as part of the program:
Students are provided with transportation to their dormitory upon arrival and are issued monthly transit passes that are good on all Vienna City transportation systems (subway, streetcar, and bus). Vienna’s subway system runs all hours of the day/night which allows students easy transportation at anytime, to almost any place.
