About Firoze
Firoze Manji, (PhD, University of London) is a Kenyan with more than 40 years’ experience in international development, health and human rights work and research. Dr. Manji is also the publisher of Daraja Press. He is Adjunct Professor at the Institute of African Studies, Carleton University, Ottawa, Canada. He was Visiting Fellow at Kellogg College, University of Oxford (2001-2016) and Richard von Weizsäcker Fellow at the Robert Bosch Academy, and Associate Fellow of the Institute for Policy Studies.

Experience
He is a board member of the Institute for Agriculture and Trade Policy, and member of the editorial review board of Global Critical Caribbean Thought. He holds a PhD and MSc from the University of London, and BDS from the University of Newcastle-upon-Tyne.
He is the founder and former editor-in-chief of the prize-winning pan African social justice newsletter and website Pambazuka News and Pambazuka Press and the founder and former executive director (1997-2010) of Fahamu – Networks for Social Justice, a pan African organisation with bases in Kenya, Senegal, South Africa and the UK.. He has previously worked as Africa Programme Director for Amnesty International, Chief Executive of the Aga Khan Foundation (UK), and Regional Representative for Health Sciences in Eastern and Southern Africa for the Canadian International Development Research Centre (IDRC), researcher at the Kenya Medical Research Institute, and lecturer in the Faculty of Medicine, University of Nairobi.
He is a former Managing Director of TWIN and TWIN Trading, and served on the Board of TWIN for two years. He was former board member of Charity Projects (Comic Relief) and of the Institute for Agriculture and Trade Policy, and currently serves as a board member of Greenpeace Africa.

He has published widely on health, human rights, development and politics. He is co-editor, with Sokari Ekine, of African Awakenings: The Emerging Revolutions and co-editor with Bill Fletcher Jr, of Claim No Easy Victories: The Legacy of Amilcar Cabral. He was a member of the editorial board of the journal Development in Practice; a founding member of the steering group on the campaign for the ratification of the protocol on the rights of women in Africa Solidarity for African Women’s Rights. He is a member of the International Advisory Board of the Centre for the Study of Global Media and Democracy, Goldsmiths College, University of London. He is member of the editorial board of AwaaZ Magazine.
