Unlike many traditional doctoral programmes \u2014 where students are often assigned a supervisor and implicitly, if not explicitly, expected to align with that professor&#8217;s existing research agenda \u2014 GCAS places your intellectual vision at the centre of the process.<\/p>\n    <p>At GCAS, you begin by developing a comprehensive literature review and clarifying your research focus. From there, we work collaboratively with you to identify the most suitable expert in the world to supervise your project \u2014 <span class=\"gint__turn\">someone who aligns with your topic, not the other way around.<\/span><\/p>\n    <p>This model allows for genuinely original scholarship to emerge. It avoids the stagnation that can arise when doctoral work is shaped primarily around institutional hierarchies or faculty egos. That review is the foundation of everything that follows: it establishes what has already been said in your field, and where the opening is for you to say something new.<\/p>\n      <p>You move on to Years 2 and 3 once that groundwork is secure \u2014 not before.<\/p>\n    <\/div>\n\n    <div class=\"gyr1__phase\">\n      <span class=\"gyr1__label\">Years Two and Three<\/span>\n      <h3>Choosing your dissertation supervisor<\/h3>\n      <p>Years 2 and 3 are given over to writing the dissertation itself, and you help choose the supervisor who will guide it. That supervisor may be a GCAS faculty member, or may be based elsewhere entirely \u2014 what matters is that they are a genuine expert in your research field, not that they happen to sit on our staff list.<\/p>\n      <p>We take this seriously for a reason that outlasts the degree. Alongside Archbishop Desmond Tutu and Vandana Shiva, Alhadeff received the Random Kindness Community Resilience Leadership Award, 2020. Her work has been endorsed by Noam Chomsky, Bill McKibben, James E. He also co-authored the book <em>Quantum Mechanics in the Single-Photon Laboratory<\/em>, published by the Institute of Physics (IOP), UK, now in its second edition. Passionate about public engagement with science, Hamza has played a key role in organising the Lahore Science Mela, the largest annual science festival in Pakistan, and co-founded Spectra, an online magazine dedicated to training popular science writers in Pakistan.
