the epic hath<\/p>\n

unfolded<\/p>\n

To:<\/strong>  \tOne.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

No longer two<\/p>\n

sides. Its story<\/p>\n

had become<\/p>\n

an epitaph.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Resolution <\/em>cannot guide                             \twhat            \twe                           \thide<\/p>\n

as we confide                         <\/p>\n

our drive<\/em> to<\/p>\n

        \td      \ti       \ts      \ts      \to      \tl       \tu      \tt       \ti       \to      \tn.<\/em><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

The distinction between<\/p>\n

Thanatos<\/em> and Eros<\/em><\/p>\n

might seem<\/p>\n

greater than<\/p>\n

the tension<\/p>\n

they bring.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Beyond the pleasure<\/p>\n

and the pain,<\/p>\n

an oceanic feeling<\/em>,<\/p>\n

feigned a fain<\/p>\n

of particular\ttotality.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

But, I knew<\/p>\n

that<\/p>\n

history didn\u2019t see <\/p>\n

its subjectivity.<\/p>\n

For, it was<\/p>\n

an epiphany,<\/p>\n

felt in thought,<\/p>\n

reflection brought,<\/p>\n

what was taught,<\/p>\n

becoming<\/p>\n

an epitome.<\/p>\n

A priori<\/em>       \tthe pinnacle,<\/p>\n

myopically<\/p>\n

sought, what had been fought among<\/p>\n

The Elders\u2019 Way<\/p>\n

     &<\/p>\n

The Great Vehicle,<\/p>\n

they<\/p>\n

debated       <\/p>\n

  a-way<\/p>\n

what<\/p>\n

it<\/p>\n

means <\/p>\n

to<\/p>\n

follow<\/p>\n

the<\/p>\n

Middle<\/p>\n

Way<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

if through Sam\u0101dhi<\/em><\/p>\n

can one be-<\/p>\n

-come an An\u0101g\u0101mi?<\/em><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

This was not too<\/p>\n

dissimilar from<\/p>\n

Ideal Ego & Ego Ideal<\/em><\/p>\n

State-of-Being or To-Become<\/p>\n

cogito, ergo sum<\/em><\/p>\n

Apprehension<\/p>\n

fully prepped<\/p>\n

Are we complete?<\/p>\n

compulsively repeat,<\/p>\n

In Epigraph Becomes Epitaph<\/em>, GCAS\u2019s Ph.D. researcher, Jacob Martino traces the symbolic arc of human consciousness, which is etched into verse\u2014where beginning and end collapse into a single ontological gesture. Drawing from psychoanalysis, Buddhist philosophy, and existential critique, the poem journeys through the dialectic of desire and death, tracing Thanatos and Eros not as opposites but as co-constructors of subjectivity.<\/p>\n
